Boy, does it pain us to list this superb piece: First time ever offered -- we purchased this very rare, high-end, NEC CT-2610A 26-inch CRT monitor/tv brand new from Wall-to-Wall Sound & Video in December, 1987 (manufactured October '87). Cost at the time was a very steep 0, which due to inflation is equivalent to well over ,000 now. It was the best TV the store carried. It has been treated with great care like a family member for 35 years. Condition-wise, it's nicer than it has any right to be considering the age -- absolutely no noteworthy scratches, scuffs, dents, or dings anywhere. We were told by recent visitors "it looks like a new TV!". Major compliment, and we feel it's accurate. Original removeable glass screen protector still intact and perfect, which a bit ironically gives it a 'flat screen' look, although this set obviously pre-dated flat technology by many, many years. Mature ownership. Used sparingly. Child-free, pet-free, non-smoking household. This is very likely the finest example of this TV left in existence -- if there's a nicer one somewhere out there, we're certainly unaware of it, but we'd absolutely love to see it. Thinking of it in automotive terms: If this were a one owner '87 Buick GNX with only 2,000 miles and in similar condition to this NEC, it would be 0,000 today.
The picture is still as superb as it was back in '87 -- see attached images taken November, 2022 of it displaying 'The Dukes of Hazzard' tape on our Panasonic VHS HiFi VCR (also available -- see our other listings). Never required any service, completely original, never been opened. Talk about well-built, quality Japanese engineering. Today's garbage TV's you'll be lucky if it lasts 5 years, let alone 35. Clean, original factory remote included, although not functioning at this time. Replacements are still readily available at minimal cost. We've also included in the listing, a rare period advertisement from the manufacturer touting their professional broadcasting roots and how much of that pro technology had trickled down to the splendid CT-2610A you see here.
This superb TV offers a variety of inputs including two separate composite video and two RF inputs. Fixed and variable monitor outputs. The TV also has an excellent internal amplifier (a real rarity) which can power remote speakers outputs (NEC is well known for their sound quality in this era) for hooking up larger external speakers if desired.
AWESOME VINTAGE GAMING MONITOR! If you're into Atari, Sega, Colecovision, Intellivision, Nintendo, early Xbox or Playstation... boy does this thing look great displaying those games -- those 'in-the-know' are already aware that todays modern LED/LCD/OLED screens, while huge and offering a gazillion pixels, do a generally TERRIBLE job of rendering vintage games. The answer is a vintage, high-end CRT like this NEC. Simply put, the experience is retro gaming like it was meant to be.
Due to size and weight we do unfortunately have to list this as 'LOCAL PICKUP ONLY'. Guessing it weighs somewhere around 100lbs. Not really interested in strapping it to a pallet and having it truck freighted to jibbip... only to hear that the forklift driver in Duluth accidentally dropped it. No thank you.
Prior to presenting an offer, please bear in mind what an extraordinarily rare find this represents. We're of the opinion this NEC is essentially irreplaceable and a real unicorn in the vintage television world -- just try finding another, let alone in this condition. Taking a look around there are folks asking far more money for inferior, beat-up vintage televisions. Why settle for junk when you can have this gem and rewind time back to 1987?
