    Description

    Pair of Japanese mingei folk art copper lined "domaru" (tree trunk) kiri (pawlonia) wood hibachi of squat, globular form, with attractive graining and good patina to the copper liners.  Late Meiji to Taisho period (early 20th century).  Each measures just over 8" high x 12" diameter.  Very good overall condition.  There are some small scattered nicks and gouges in the wood.  This style of hibachi is described and illustrated on pages 116-117 of "Traditional Japanese Furniture: A Definitive Guide" by Kazuo Koizumi, Kodansha, 1986.
